With a 9-0 tech fall in match number 2, Matthew Singleton became Georgia's first World Team member since the great Sean Hage some 30 years ago. Singleton will represent the United States at the UWW Greco Junior Worlds August 16th-21st in Russia.
Singleton won 3 matches to reach the best of 3 finals against Justin McCunn of the Viking Wrestling Club out of Grand View IA. Singleton won the first match with a wild 8-6 decision that saw him give up a very questionable 4 point throw, and he also lost out on a 4 pointer of his own when the mat official got in the way. Ultimately, a takedown in the final 30 seconds gave Singleton the win. The 2nd match was all Singleton, an early takedown gave him a quick 2-0 lead. Singleton then picked up a gut wrench after a forced par terre for a 5-0 lead going into the break. In the opening exchange of the 2nd period, Singleton picked up 4 on a vicious over under throw to win 9-0 and secure the World Team spot at 77kg.
