Taylor Knapp Collins Hill vs David Habat St. Ignatius 152lbs 3rd Place Match Super 32 2009

Georgia Archives Match of the Week #7

Could have picked quite a few videos for Georgia’s Taylor Knapp, but this is the one I fell on first. Taylor Knapp vs David Habat was a big-time matchup at Super 32 back in 2009. Knapp came out on top in this match 6-4. Habat came out firing with the first takedown, but Knapp battled back hard to finish off strong, and finish with his hand raised. David Habat was a 4x State Placer, never finishing lower than 3rd, and was a 1x State Champion in Ohio. In college he wrestled at Edinboro and was a 2x All-American finishing as a runner-up in 2015 after a great match to Drake Houdashelt in Sudden Victory.

Taylor Knapp is one of the many great wrestlers in the second legacy class of the Collins Hill Dynasty that took place in the late 1990’s-2000’s. Following behind his brother Thomas Knapp who was a main stay in the first legacy class of the Collins Hill Dynasty. Taylor was a stud for Collins Hill and one of the best wrestlers to ever go through the program, he spent most of his youth days grinding between Arturo Holmes' The Wrestling Center and the Collins Hill Wrestling Club. He was a 4x 5A State Placer, only losing once at the State Tournament his Freshman year to a very worthy opponent in Parkview’s Ryan Galloway who was a 2x 5A State Champion. He finished high school as a 3x 5A State Champion, 2008 Brute Junior Nationals Champion, 2007 Preseason Nationals Champion, 3x Toshiba Midwest Classic All-American, 2x Super 32 All-American, 2009 MOW at The Clash, and the 2009 Dave Schultz Award Winner. He would finish at Collins Hill as the 2nd most wins, 2nd most pins, 3rd in total wins in a season, and 4th most in career winning percentage. He was the 5th ranked overall wrestler at 152lbs his Senior Year and went on to wrestle in college at both Newberry and Virginia Tech, he would finish his wrestling career as an All-American. He gives a lot back to the sport after graduating from college where he coached at numerous Wrestling Clubs throughout Georgia, often coming back home to help run camps and practices at Collins Hill.
